Lynn C. Hyland, DDS
Meet Dr. Hyland
Dr. Hyland was born and raised in Owatonna, MN. He received his undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Minnesota. He graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry in 1983.
Upon graduation from dental school, Dr. Hyland served over twelve years as a Dental Officer in the U.S. Navy. He completed a one year oral surgery fellowship at Naval Dental Clinic in San Diego, CA in 1987. During his Naval career he practiced general dentistry at various naval stations all in San Diego, CA including:
- Naval Station 32nd Street
- Naval Training Center
- Marine Corp Depot
- Naval Air Station Miramar
- Naval Submarine Base
He also served a tour of duty as a Dental Officer on the USS McKee.
From 1988 through 1993, Dr. Hyland completed his Oral and Maxillofacial surgery residency at Naval Medical Center San Diego. During Desert Storm, where many medical and dental officers were shipped out, Dr. Hyland became chief resident at Naval Medical Center San Diego.
Dr. Hyland fulfilled his military obligation as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon by serving as Commander and staff surgeon department head at Naval Hospital Camp LeJeune in North Carolina. In 1996, he joined Dr. Norman Schuen’s Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery practice in Kalamazoo. Dr. Schuen retired in 2001, leaving the practice to Dr. Hyland.
Dr. Hyland is board certified in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery. He is a Diplomat with the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He also holds membership with multiple professional organizations:

Dr. Hyland is married and has three grown children, one granddaughter and 3 fluffy cats named Sugar, Sherman and Oliver. He and his wife Johanna live in Kalamazoo. His son Eric is married to Cecilia. They have a daughter named Rosie. Eric is employed by Stryker. His daughter Kristen is an infection control nurse at WMED. His youngest daughter Cassidy is a music therapist and is employed in Indianapolis. Dr. Hyland enjoys many hobbies and activities … from civil war guns, golf, hunting, Ninjutsu (where he holds a black belt), fishing, kayaking, travel, and spending time with his family.
